Jacques Wm Lenders MD, PhD, FRCP

Prof. dr. Jacques Lenders started in 1977 his training for internist in Den Bosch and continued it further until 1982 in the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Center in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. He became staff member in the Department of Internal Medicine (Division of General Internal Medicine) and in 1988 he defended his thesis ‘Blood pressure and catecholamine reactivity to adrenergic stimulation in essential hypertension’ at the Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands. From 1-8-1991 tot 31-12-1992 he worked as Visiting Associate in the Clinical Neuroscience Branch of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke at the NIH in Bethesda, USA, under supervision of Dr. D. Goldstein and Dr. I. Kopin. During his stay at the NIH, he and dr. Graeme Eisenhofer developed an HPLC-ECD based assay for measurement of plasma metanephrines. Since then he worked mainly in the field of endocrine hypertension (pheochromocytoma, primary aldosteronism) and participated in several international collaborative studies with Prof. Eisenhofer (Dresden, Germany) and Dr. Karel Pacak at the NIH. Bethesdaa, USA. In 2005 he was appointed as full professor at the Radboud University Nijmegen in the field of Vascular Medicine. Since 1-11-2008 he is also part-time affiliate staff member at the Department of Internal Medicine III, University Medical Center Gustav Carus, Dresden, Germany. He served as first chairman of the Working Group on Endocrine Hypertension of the European Society of Hypertension. Recently he was appointed as chairman of the Pheochromocytoma/ Paraganglioma Clinical Practice Guideline Task Force of The Endocrine Society. Currently he is professor in Internal Medicine (Vascular Medicine) and Deputy Chair of the Department of Medicine at the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre, Nijmegen, The Netherlands.
