Professor Touchon got his Medical Degree in 1979 and his specialty in Neurology in 1992 from the Medical School of Montpellier. He has been a Professor of Neurology at the Medical School University since 1990 and was Dean of the School of Medicine from 2000 to 2010. Since 2004 he has been the Chief of Neurology at the Montpellier University Research Hospital overseeing the entire neurology department with outpatient facilities, diagnostic consultations, and follow-up. Since 2011 he has been the coordinator of the INSERM UNIT 1061 – CHU La Colombière- Montpellier France. This research unit has objectives to better understand the underlying mechanisms of neuropsychiatric diseases and improve the care management of patients affected by these pathologies.
Furthermore, Professor Touchon is the director of the CNRMAJ: National Referent Center for Young Adults with Alzheimer’s Disease and since 2000 has been the director of the Center for Memory Resources and Research (CMRR) for the Languedoc-Roussillon region. This center was distinguished by the French Health Ministry in 2000.
Professor Jacques Touchon is also the Deputy Mayor of Montpellier in charge of prevention, environment, and health he has been awarded the academic palms for his research on Alzheimer’s Disease in 1999, the Pinel Prize in 1999, and was the recipient of the Légion d’Honneur in 2007.
