Dr. Jacob Trevino, Ph.D., joined the ASRC as the director of its NanoFabrication Facility in September 2013. In that role, he works closely with CUNY faculty researchers as well as external researchers to fully develop the ASRC cleanroom’s state-of-the-art core facilities. He also leads outreach efforts to the public, academic institutions and industrial collaborators.
Dr. Trevino, whose academic and research background is in nanophotonics, worked as a senior process engineer in the Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) industry prior to his arrival at CUNY. In his previous position at Analog Devices, he used cutting-edge micro- and nano-fabrication techniques to bring new products into high-volume manufacturing. He has also worked in the area of MEMS foundry process development, collaborating with universities and companies to bring their designs to fruition.
Dr. Trevino earned a BA in physics from Susquehanna University, MS in electrical engineering from Case Western Reserve University and a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from Boston University. His doctoral research involved the design of complex nanostructures for enhanced light-matter interactions in planar optical devices. Specifically, his work targeted the enhancement of light emitting diodes (LEDs), thin-film solar cells, and optical beams carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM).
