Jacob Bornstein MD, MPA, is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Galilee Medical Center and Bar-Ilan University, Israel. Professor Bornstein’s main current research area is the study of pain mechanisms. Especially that related to the lower genital tract and pelvis, in particular, Vulvodynia. Professor Bornstein obtained his MD in the Hebrew University – Hadassah Medical School, completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hatechnion-Carmel Medical Center, a 2-year Post Doc fellowship in the Virology Department at Baylor College of Medicine, and later periods of Visiting Professorship in NSW University of Sidney, Australia, in the University of Western Australia, and in the Division of Virology, Department of Pathology, University of Cambridge. He is a past President of the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease (ISSVD) and is currently the chairman of the ISSVD and the IFCPC (International Federation of Cervical Pathology and Colposcopy) terminology Committees. In this role, he introduced consensus terminologies of vulvodynia, of VIN, and colposcopy of the cervix, vagina, and vulva. Professor Bornstein received the degree of Honorary Professor at the Buenos Aires University, School of Medicine, as well as the “Distinguished Scientific Award” of the American Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP) and the “ISSVD President Award of Merit” He is currently the chairman of the Israeli Society for the Study of Sexually Transmitted Infections, and the Editor-in-Chief of Pelviperineology,  an international journal.
