Dr. Jack E. Dixon is an internationally recognized scientist working in the field of reversible phosphorylation. His education and scientific training were carried out at the University of California, Los Angeles, University of California, Santa Barbara, and University of California, San Diego. In 1973, Jack joined the Faculty at Purdue University where he subsequently became the Wiley Professor of Biochemistry.

In 1991 Jack became the Chair of the Department of Biological Chemistry at the University of Michigan, where he was the Minor J. Coon Professor of Biological Chemistry. In 2003, Jack returned to Southern California to become Dean for Scientific Affairs and Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of California, San Diego. In 2006, Jack accepted the position of Vice-President and Chief Scientific Officer at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Jack returned full time to his laboratory and university duties at UCSD in July 2013.

During his scientific career, Jack has received numerous scientific awards such as the William Rose and Merck Awards (American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology). Further, he has been selected as a member of the National Academy of Science, the Institute of Medicine, and the American Philosophical Society, and was elected as a Foreign Member of the Royal Society.
