Jack Bryant PhD

Dr. Jack Bryant is a molecular microbiologist and bacterial genetics researcher currently serving as a Nottingham Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham within the School of Life Sciences. His research focuses on Gram-negative bacterial envelope biology, gene regulation, chromosome biology, and the development of innovative antimicrobial strategies.

Dr. Bryant earned his BSc (Hons) with First Class honors and the John Butterfield Prize from the University of Birmingham in 2008, followed by a PhD in 2013. He subsequently held multiple postdoctoral research positions at the University of Birmingham before joining Nottingham in 2023 as a Nottingham Research Fellow.

His expertise spans high-throughput bacterial genetics, chromosome engineering, protein biochemistry, and antimicrobial discovery. Dr. Bryant’s current work investigates the beta-barrel assembly machine (BAM) complex in Gram-negative bacteria, aiming to identify new antimicrobial targets and improve antibiotic efficacy against drug-resistant pathogens. His research integrates genetics, structural biology, and biochemical approaches to better understand bacterial membrane assembly and quality-control mechanisms.
