Jaap Stoker

Mr. Dr J. Stoker (1961) has been appointed Professor of Radiology, in particular Abdominal Imaging Diagnostics, at the University of Amsterdam's Faculty of Medicine (UvA). Jaap Stoker will focus on the further development of imaging techniques for diseases of the digestive tract and abdominal organs. Particular attention will be paid to continuous improvement of the diagnostic value of the abdominal imaging techniques, deepening and broadening of the diagnostic possibilities and reduction of patient stress.

Focus areas will include the diagnosis of colorectal cancer (such as screening for colorectal cancer by means of virtual colonoscopy with computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging) and abnormalities of the small intestine. It is expected that the research will broaden anatomical information into functional information as well, integrating these two forms of information.

Stoker worked as a staff member from 1994 to 1997 at the Radiology department at Dijkzigt Hospital in Rotterdam. Since 1998 he has a staff position at the Radiology department of the AMC.
