Dr. Zalud attended medical school at the University of Zagreb in Croatia and went through his Ob/Gyn residency at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, New York. Prior to joining the department as an Associate Professor, Dr. Zalud completed a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Zalud provides clinical care to women of Hawaii and the Pacific Islands who have complications with pregnancy or other gynecological conditions.

Dr. Zalud also serves as Chief of the Imaging (Ob/Gyn Ultrasound) Division; in addition to fulfilling his obligations as a clinician and an educator, he relentlessly researches technological, theoretical, and diagnostic innovations in this field. Extensive research and clinical application of ultrasound have created a completely new approach in medicine, commonly called "fetus as a patient." Early recognition of problems can lead to early medical intervention that in turn can help the mother and her unborn baby. Research in ultrasound is crucial to fulfilling this goal.

Dr. Zalud is a member of many national and international professional organizations. He published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, and scientific conference abstracts. He lectures as an invited speaker at 75 national and international conferences in both Americas, Europe, and Asia.
