Isuru Induruwa MBBS, MRCP, PhD

Isuru Induruwa was appointed as a Clinical Lecturer in Geriatric and Stroke Medicine in 2020. His main area of research is in thrombosis, in particular how platelets contribute to thrombus formation in different aetiologies of stroke. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge in 2019, in collaboration with the Departments of Biochemistry and Haematology, which researched the role of a particular platelet surface receptor called glycoprotein VI in ischaemic stroke. His work was supported by the British Heart Foundation and the Addenbrookes Charitable Trust.

Isuru Induruwa's clinical work involves working within the Departments of Medicine for the Elderly and Stroke at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is interested in stroke prevention, particularly in screening and optimizing treatment for patients with atrial fibrillation who are at risk of ischaemic stroke. He plans to continue my research within this role, particularly on novel targets and inhibitors of thrombus formation, which could then be applied to help stroke patients in the future.
