István Bitter, MD., PhD. DSc is Professor of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary. He earned his MD from Semmelweis University. Certified Specialist in Neurology, Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, and Clinical Pharmacology. He worked in Austria and Germany, and was visiting professor of the New York University and research scientist at N.S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research in the USA. Dr. Bitter is Chair of the Section of Psychopharmacology of the Association of European Psychiatrists. He is past president of the Hungarian Psychiatric Association. He was/is an editorial or advisory board member of several professional journals, including Archives of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Comprehensive Psychiatry, European Neuropsychopharmacology, and International Journal of Psychiatry in Clinical Practice, Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology, Psychiatria Hungarica.Dr. Bitter is the founder of the Adult ADHD Research Group and Outpatient Clinic at the Semmelweis University. The members of the group offer comprehensive diagnostic and treatment methods and regularly publish on ADHD. Dr. Bitter’s background includes clinical psychopharmacology, medical education and cognitive-behavioural therapy. He has authored or co-authored (as of 28.03.2018) 295 publications (incl. books and book chapters) with 8286 independent citations.
