Issam I. Raad MD, FACP, FIDSA, FSHEA

Issam Raad, M.D., professor and chair in the Department of Infectious Diseases, Infection Control and Employee Health, is considered one of the leading experts in the field of health care related infections and infections in cancer on a worldwide basis. During his 25 years at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Raad has made numerous outstanding clinical research contributions that have led to significant improvements in controlling life-threatening infections for patients with cancer and other serious illnesses throughout the world.

Dr. Raad has received the MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Otis W. and Pearl L. Walters Faculty Achievement Award in Clinical Research (2006) and the Order of Cedars Medal, Lebanon’s highest award for outstanding scientific achievement (2005). In 2004, he received the Houston Intellectual Property Law Association’s Outstanding Inventor Award for developing technologies to prevent vascular catheter-related infections and advancing medical care around the world. A 1998 recipient of the SHEA Young Investigator Award, he has also served on the editorial board of Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology for 18 years.
