Dr. Iris Otani is an allergist and immunologist with a special focus on treating drug allergies, hives, and eosinophilic esophagitis (accumulation of a certain type of white blood cell in the esophagus that causes inflammation). She is the associate program director of the UCSF allergy and immunology fellowship and director of quality improvement and patient safety for the Allergy & Immunology Clinic.

Otani's research focuses on improving care for patients with drug allergies so that they can safely take the medications they need.

Otani received her medical degree from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. While earning her medical degree, she completed a fellowship in immunology conferred by the National Institutes of Health. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in allergy and immunology at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Otani is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.

When she's not working, Otani enjoys playing violin in classical musical groups as well as spending time with friends and family. She also dedicates time to music community outreach at senior centers, schools, and health care facilities.
