Irene de Lazaro is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Bioengineering at the laboratory of Prof. David Mooney at the John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (Harvard University) and the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering (Boston, USA). She studies the impact that the immune response has on the regeneration of tissue after injury. She uses carbon nanomaterials, such as graphene oxide flakes, to reprogram immune cells towards desired phenotypes. Irene graduated from Alcalá University, Madrid, Spain, with a DPharm (2009). In 2010, she received a Postgraduate Fellowship from Obra Social LaCaixa to pursue an M.Sc. in Drug Delivery (2011) and a Ph.D. in Regenerative Medicine (2015), both under the supervision of Prof Kostas Kostarelos at The School of Pharmacy at University College London (UCL). Before moving to the USA, Irene performed a 2-year postdoctoral training at The University of Manchester (UK). In her spare time, Irene loves traveling to different states and trying their best doughnuts!.
