Ira Marc Herman PhD

Dr. Herman is a global thought leader whose expertise and interests are focused on developing advanced diagnostics and therapeutics for wound healing and regenerative medicine.

Since his early discoveries and innovations linked to revealing the basic molecular and cellular mechanisms regulating cell- and tissue responses to injury, tumor growth and wound healing, Dr. Herman has, over his career and to the present day, spawned new fields of interest while enabling paradigm-shifting hypotheses and models revealing the molecular, physical and chemical drivers that control the cellular responses to injury, wound healing and tissue regeneration.

As a professor of ophthalmology and with his significant contributions to our understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying pathological angiogenesis accompanying tumor progression, Dr. Herman has also delivered key advances for molecular and cell-based ocular anti-angiogenic therapeutics aiming to ameliorate or prevent the progression of diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration.
