Ion Zabalegui MD, DDS

Ion Zabalegui was born in Bilbao, Spain, in a family of dentists (grandfather, uncle). He and his brother Borja, went through medical school (6 years) and a specialization in Stomatology (2 years), which in those times was mandatory in that country to be able to practice as a Dentist. Ion was accepted into the Graduate Periodontology program at the U. Southern California, and he graduated in 1987 being Dr. Oded Bahat his program director. Once graduated he returned to his home city, Bilbao, in the Vasque country in Spain, where he developed his private practice with his brother Borja, M.D; DDS, Grad Endo from USC, and Jaime Gil, M.D; D:D:S, his restorative partner at the “Albia Clínica Dental” which has been ever since a reference in Spain for dental treatment. He joined in Spring 1987 the Staff as a visiting Professor for the Grad Perio department at the University Complutense in Madrid. Later, he was been occasional visiting Professor at different Universities around Spain. From then on, he became a recurrent speaker in Spain and throughout Europe and Latin America, on Regenerative therapy in Periodontology, Mucogingival treatment of multiple gingival recessions, Implant therapy, and Hard and soft tissue reconstruction. He has also been involved in Clinical Research in several RCTs in Multicenter Studies throughout Europe. He was also a member of the AAP´s 2015 Workshop in Regenerative Therapy. He has published multiple articles, textbook chapters, and other educational activities. At present, he owns with Dr. Mariano Sanz and Dr. Dino Calzavara the 3-D graphics company “Periopixel”.
