Ioanna Papandreou PhD

Ioanna Papandreou, PhD, is a member of the Molecular Biology and Cancer Genetics Program at the OSUCCC – James, where her research focus is on identifying new metabolic targets for therapeutic development. In particular, she seeks to understand how cells in solid tumors respond to microenvironmental stresses by activating metabolic programs that help the malignancies progress. One such stressful condition is the lack of sufficient oxygen within the tumor (hypoxia), which then impacts the ways that tumor cells metabolize sugars and lipids. Dr. Papandreou has co-authored numerous articles in well-known publications, including Cell Metabolism, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA, Cancer Research, and Cell Death & Differentiation.
