Dr. Ingrid Van Den Hoven is a surgical oncologist and has been working as a surgeon at St. Anna hospital since January 1, 2019. She has a special interest in the treatment of breast cancer (breast surgery), melanoma (skin cancer), inguinal hernia surgery, and proctology (treatment of anal and pelvic floor disorders).
She studied medicine in Maastricht and was trained as a surgeon at the Máxima Medical Center Veldhoven/Eindhoven and the Maastricht University Medical Center. In 2016 she obtained her PhD for her dissertation “Clinical prediction models and the changing role of axillary treatment in breast cancer“.
Her dissertation describes the changes in axillary treatment in breast cancer patients and evaluates the role of prediction models in making a personalized treatment plan.
In addition to her regular tasks as a surgeon, she is responsible for training interns, nurse specialists, and a physician assistant. She is also a member of the MIP committee (Notifications Incidents Patient Care) within the st. Anne hospital. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, diving and sculpting.
She believes it is important that patients are well-informed and feel at ease. Through shared decision-making, she tries to arrive at a personalized treatment plan together with the patient. Patients especially appreciate her involvement, good explanations, and the time she takes for her patients.
