Inge Kortekaas Krohn graduated with her Bachelor of Applied Science at the Hogeschool Leiden, The Netherlands, in 2003 after an internship at Deutsches Herz Zentrum Berlin, Germany, and a bachelor project at the University of Leiden. From 2003-2005, she was employed as a research technician at the Amsterdam UMC, The Netherlands, where she moved to Denmark and worked at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, and at Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark. In 2010, she started her Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at Aarhus University. After graduating in 2012, she continued as a Research Assistant at the Dept. of Pulmonary Medicine, Aarhus University Hospital for another 10 months. She moved to Belgium in November 2013 to obtain a PhD in Biomedical Sciences at the Dept. of Otorhinolaryngology at the Katholieke Universiteit (KU) Leuven.

Currently, Inge is the Junior Group leader of the Skin Immunology & Immune Tolerance (SKIN) Research Lab at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). At present, the group consists of 4 PhD students, 3 Master thesis students, and a laboratory technician. The SKIN Research Group is part of the Dept. of Dermatology at UZ Brussels (Prof. Jan Gutermuth). The unique situation of a research lab being part of a clinical department is the close collaboration with clinicians and access to patients for highly translational and clinically relevant academic studies. The research focuses on the innate and adaptive immune response of inflammatory skin diseases. More specifically, uncovering autoreactive IgE antibodies in atopic dermatitis, discovering the direct effects of biologicals (treatments) on skin cells using in vitro skin models, biobanking of rare skin diseases, and validation of electrical impedance spectroscopy for skin barrier function. She is currently the Secretary of the Immunology Section of EAACI.

Inge has been granted several competitive funds for research projects, such as Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (FWO) Junior Postdoc mandate, FWO Junior Research Project, Sanofi Regeneron Type 2 Innovation Grant, Pfizer Research Grant, AbbVie Research Grant, and a local starter grant (Wetenschappelijk Fonds Willy Gepts).
