Imran Mirza MBBS, MS, FRCPC, FCAP, FASCP

Dr. Imran Mirza is a Consultant Physician in Pathology & Lab Medicine at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City. He is also a Clinical Professor in the Department of Pathology & Lab Medicine of the University of Calgary. Previously he was the Founding Chair of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Institute (PLMI) at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD), where he led a remarkable team of caregivers providing Anatomical and Clinical Pathology services. Under his leadership, the CCAD laboratory was accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and by Emirates International Accreditation Center (formerly Dubai Accreditation Department) according to the ISO 15189 Standards, and by the United Kingdom Accreditation Services for POCT Services according to ISO 22870 Standards.

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Mirza worked as an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry of the University of Alberta, Canada, and served as the Director of the Molecular Pathology Lab at the University of Alberta Hospitals, Canada, and as Section Head of Molecular Pathology at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi.

Dr. Mirza is a graduate of the University of Punjab in Pakistan and George Washington University in the US and has served as a resident in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Yale University-affiliated program and did his fellowship in Hematopathology at Cleveland Clinic. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada; CAP; and the American Society for Clinical Pathology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, Hematology, and Molecular Genetic Pathology.

Dr. Mirza is certified Laboratory Medical Director by CAP and also holds certification in Lab Management by the American Association of Clinical Chemistry. He has been a CAP inspector for >15 years and a certified internal auditor for ISO 15189 standards. He also holds a yellow belt in Lean Six Sigma for continuous improvement.
