Ilkka S. Kaartinen MD, PhD

Dr. Ilkka Kaartinen trained at Tampere University Hospital, Finland, and Helsinki University Hospital, Finland. He currently works as a senior consultant of plastic surgery at Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden. He did his PhD thesis at Tampere University in 2010 and has authored 25 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals and several book chapters.

He was the president-elect of the Finnish Association of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery (FAPRAS) from 2014-2015, and is the current president of FAPRAS since 2015. He is on the board of the Finnish Society of Surgery since 2015. He is mainly working in many fields of reconstructive microsurgery, especially breast reconstruction and microvascular lymph node transfer, lower extremity, and pelvic floor, and genitourinary reconstructions.

His research interests are Plastic Surgery, Reconstructive Microsurgery, Breast Reconstruction, Microvascular Lymph Node Transfer, Lower Extremity, Pelvic Floor, Genitourinary Reconstructions, Wound Healing, Cosmetic Surgery, Breast Augmentation, Eyelid Surgery, Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
