Dr. Ignacio Garcia De La Torre is originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico (date of birth: March 10, 1950). He graduated as a Surgeon and Midwife at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Guadalajara in November 1972. He then made the Specialty of Internal Medicine at the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition “Dr. Salvador Zubiran ”in Mexico City from 1973 to 1976. Later he was awarded a scholarship by the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACyT) and the University of Guadalajara, to carry out a Fellowship in Immunology and Rheumatology under the direction of Dr. Eng M. So at the Scripps Clinic Research Foundation in La Jolla, California, USA (1976 - 1977) and at the University of Colorado Medical Center (1977 - 1978).
Dr. García De La Torre returned to Guadalajara in September 1978 where he started and founded the Department of Immunology and Rheumatology at the Hospital General de Occidente of the Ministry of Health, and shortly after he was appointed Head of this Department. In 1979 he was appointed Professor of Clinical Rheumatology and Immunology at the University Center of Health Sciences of the University of Guadalajara. In 1988, he founded the Rheumatology Specialty Program at the Hospital General de Occidente and was appointed Professor of the Specialty. Since 1993, he is also a Senior Research Professor "C" at the University Center for Health Sciences of the University of Guadalajara.
