Ian Thompson MD, MBA

Dr. Ian Thompson, MD, MBA, is an accomplished urologic oncologist and healthcare leader based in San Antonio, Texas. A third-generation urologist, Dr. Thompson combines deep clinical expertise with administrative and business acumen, blending patient-centered care with strategic leadership in healthcare delivery.

Dr. Thompson completed his undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University, followed by medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). He trained in general surgery and urologic surgery at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and returned to UTHSCSA to complete a fellowship in urologic oncology. Following his fellowship, he served on the faculty as an Assistant Professor in Urologic Oncology.

In addition to his medical training, Dr. Thompson earned an MBA from the University of Texas at San Antonio, enhancing his leadership capabilities in clinical operations and healthcare business strategy.

Professionally, Dr. Thompson is the CEO and Medical Director of a urology practice and has held significant roles in clinical leadership, including as a hospital Chief Medical Officer within a health system. He also founded Texas Urology Group, PA, where he focuses on delivering high-quality, compassionate urologic care to his patients.
