Ian Norton graduated with Honours from the University of Sydney and trained in Gastroenterology in Sydney. He received a PhD for a thesis on the role of oxidative stress in pancreatitis from the University of New South Wales. He subsequently did Endoscopy and Pancreatology Fellowships at the Mayo Clinic and was a consultant and Assistant Professor there until returning to Australia in 2001. He is currently Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney and Head of Dept of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Royal North Shore Hospital. He was on the Council of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia for 10yrs and is that Society’s immediate past President.

His current interests are advanced endoscopy techniques including ERCP and Endoscopic Ultrasound and quality improvement in colonoscopy.
