Iain Mcneish PhD, FMedSci

Iain McNeish is Chair in Oncology and Head of the Division of Cancer within the Department of Surgery and Cancer, and co-director of the School of Convergence Science in Health and Technology. He is also the Director of the Ovarian Cancer Action Research Centre and joint lead of the Surgery and Cancer theme in the Imperial NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). He is also co-lead for the Imperial Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre. Externally, he is a director of Gynaecological Cancer Trials UK and GCIG, the Gynaecological Cancer InterGroup.

He trained in medicine at the University of Oxford, with postgraduate training in Glasgow, Birmingham and Imperial. He was an MRC Senior Clinical Fellow at Barts Cancer Institute and subsequently Professor of Gynaecological Oncology at the University of Glasgow before moving back to Imperial in 2018. His research focuses on ovarian cancer, specifically developing improved therapies through improved understanding of disease biology. He leads the BriTROC translational research collaborative, and his lab investigates copy number alterations in ovarian high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC) as a possible prognostic and predictive biomarker.

His group has also recently developed novel transplantable murine models of HGSC using CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology to allow investigation of novel therapies in an immunocompetent model. These transplantable cells are freely available to researchers. His clinical work focuses on ovarian and endometrial cancers, and he is an honorary consultant in medical oncology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He was elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2022.
