Hwan Kim PhD

Hwan Keun Kim is an Assistant Professor at Stony Brook University. He received his undergraduate education at the University of Illinois, Chicago, and a Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Chicago. Kim laboratory members study genetic and molecular aspects of host-pathogen-vector interactions, primarily focusing on tick-borne rickettsioses. Our current research goals are to 1) understand genetic requirements for rickettsial intracellular lifecycle, 2) characterize molecular mechanisms involved in rickettsial pathogenesis and tick transmission, and 3) survey tick populations and study their impacts on the prevalence of spotted fever rickettsioses in patients.
