Dr. Hung Nguyen is the regional representative for East and Southeast Asia and senior scientist Ecohealth and food safety at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and based in Vietnam. His current research focuses on the link between health and agriculture, food safety, and infectious and zoonotic diseases with an emphasis on the use of risk assessment for food safety management with an integrative approach (Ecohealth and One Health).

Prior to joining ILRI, he was a joint appointment between ILRI and Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH). He co-founded and led the Center for Public Health and Ecosystem Research (CENPHER) at Hanoi School of Public Health (HSPH) (2009-2013) where he has been generating and coordinating a regional research portfolio and acts as the regional coordinator of the Ecohealth Field Building Leadership Initiative (FBLI) in Southeast Asia.

Prior to joining the HSPH, Hung worked for SwissTPH and Sandec/Eawag (2007-2012) as a postdoctoral researcher in Microbiology, Health, and Environment within the Swiss National Center for Competences in Research North-South program (NCCR North-South) with fieldwork in Southeast Asia (Vietnam and Thailand) and West Africa (Cote d’Ivoire). Hung has + 15 years of experience working in developing countries. He holds a BSc in Biology (Vietnam) and a Ph.D. in Life and Environmental Sciences (France).
