Hulya Bayir MD

Dr. Hülya Bay?r finished medical school at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey in 1995. She completed her internship and residency training in pediatrics at Hacettepe Children’s hospital and State University of New York at Stony Brook. She then completed her fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. She is currently an Associate Professor of Critical Care Medicine and Environmental and Occupational Health at the University of Pittsburgh. She is the Director of Research in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and Associate Director at Safar Center for Resuscitation Research and Center for Free Radical and Antioxidant Health. Dr. Bay?r’s research focuses on experimental and translational research on mitochondrial injury, oxidative and nitrative signaling pathways of neuronal death after traumatic and ischemic brain injury. She has organized a multidisciplinary team of investigators to study novel approaches to the treatment of mitochondrial dysfunction by targeting oxidative stress. Dr. Bay?r has more than 80 publications and has been a valued mentor to students, residents and fellows.
