Dr. Hristelina S. Ilieva, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Neurology and the Medical Director of the Weinberg ALS Center at the Vickie & Jack Farber Institute for Neuroscience, part of Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health in Philadelphia. She received her medical degree from the Higher Medical Institute in Bulgaria and completed residency training at Methodist Hospital in Houston, followed by fellowship training at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institute and the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research.

Dr. Ilieva is board-certified in Neurology and Neuromuscular Medicine, and her clinical expertise includes the diagnosis and management of neuromuscular disorders with a special focus on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and related motor neuron diseases. In her role at Jefferson, she leads multidisciplinary care and research initiatives aimed at improving outcomes for patients with ALS and other neurodegenerative conditions, and she has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on disease mechanisms, biomarkers, and therapeutic strategies in ALS and peripheral neuropathies. Her work bridges clinical care, patient-centered research, and medical education, reflecting a deep commitment to advancing understanding and treatment of complex neurological disorders.
