Hooman Kamel earned his bachelor's degree from Harvard College and his MD from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. He trained as a neurology resident and a neurocritical care fellow at the University of California, San Francisco. As a member of our stroke and critical care division, his clinical responsibilities involve caring for patients admitted to our stroke unit and neurological intensive care unit.

As an assistant professor, Dr. Kamel maintains an active research program and has published studies in leading journals in the fields of neurology, stroke, and critical care. His research on the link between cardiac arrhythmias and stroke is funded by the National Institutes of Health. He is also an academic editor for PLOS One and an associate editor for Journal Watch Neurology, which publishes influential editorials about research developments for practicing physicians around the country.
