Hj. Hamidon Hj. Basri BSc, MD, MMed, AM

Dr. Hj. Hamidon Hj. Basri is a Senior Consultant Neurologist, Professor of Medicine, (Academics) of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. He is also the Head of the Neurology and Rehabilitation Unit of the Department of Medicine. He is an ad hoc reviewer of several local and international journals, including Cerebrovascular Diseases, Diabetes and its Complications, Singapore Medical Journal, Medical Journal of Malaysia, Malaysian Journal of Medical Sciences, and Malaysian Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences. He has also been invited to deliver more than 100 lectures both locally and abroad. His main area of research interest is stroke and he has more than 50 publications in local and international journals. He has received more than 10 awards for his research and activities in local and international arenas.

Prof. Dr. Hamidon is a life member and is now President of the Malaysian Society of Neurosciences. He has been the President of the Malaysian Stroke Council since 2008 and played an integral role in the development of the Malaysian stroke clinical practice guidelines. He is also a council member of the Malaysian National Vascular Advisory Board and is the national coordinator for the STROKOP Asian stroke registry. He is the secretary of the ASEAN stroke chapter of ASNA (ASEAN Neurological Association). He was appointed as the international advisor and faculty member of the Asia-Pacific Congress against Stroke in 2007 and was the lead delegate to several ASEAN regions to promote Stroke treatment in countries like Laos and Thailand. Prof. Dr. Hamidon is one of the pioneer Neurologists to promote the advanced management of stroke in Malaysia.
