Hiroyuki Mano MD, PhD

Dr. Mano received his M.D. from School of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Tokyo in 1984, and became a member of The Third Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Tokyo. He then received a clinical training as a hematologist, and also started molecular biological analyses to look for novel signaling molecules involved in the growth mechanism of hematopoietic cells. Dr. Mano identified a novel non-receptor-type protein-tyrosine kinase “Tec”, and for this discovery, Dr. Mano received his Ph.D. from The Graduate School of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Tokyo.

Dr. Mano is currently a professor of Division of Functional Genomics at Jichi Medical University, and focuses on the search for essential molecules in the malignant transformation mechanism of human cancers. His group has established to construct retroviral cDNA expression libraries from small amounts of clinical specimens, and with such technique, they have succeeded to discover a novel fusion-type tyrosine kinase EML4-ALK in lung cancer.
