Hilary Merrett

Dr. Hilary is a healthcare manager and consultant specialising in patient safety. She has undertaken training, teaching and facilitation of staff in governance and clinical risk management within the UK, Ireland and overseas for many years and has consulted, written and lectured internationally on risk management and quality in healthcare.

She developed and chaired the Healthcare Risk Forum, one of the first networks for risk and governance managers in the UK. She has worked with the National Patient Safety Agency on their root cause analysis eLearning toolkit and is the Editor of the journal Clinical Risk.

Dr. Hilary started her career in the NHS in a variety of operational, planning, information, and general management roles in acute and community healthcare settings. Her patient safety and risk management activities have involved diagnostic organisational reviews in numerous health and social care organisations, the development of safety related standards and assessment methodologies and the design and delivery of patient safety, risk management and risk assessment programmes.

She has provided risk management advice to the Welsh Risk Pool for many years and has recently advised commissioners on improvements to compliance and governance arrangements with service providers.
