Henk M. Koning MD, PhD

Dr. Koning after studying medicine at the Free University in Amsterdam was trained as an anesthesiologist at the Antonius Hospital in Nieuwegein. He obtained his PhD with the thesis “Severe renal dysfunction after open-heart surgery”. From 1987 to 1988 he worked at the Red Cross Hospital in Beverwijk, focusing on intensive care for burn patients. In 1988 he joined the Leeuwarden Medical Center where he set up the Pain Management department.

From 2009 to 2016 Henk Koning worked at the Jan van Goyen Medical Center in Amsterdam, the DC|Pijncentrum in Almere, and the DC Clinics Lairesse on Valeriusplein in Amsterdam. He has extensive experience with pain management and has published in various national and international journals. His areas of focus within pain management are back pain, neck pain, headaches, facial pain, tinnitus, and fibromyalgia (a form of chronic pain). Henk Koning is a member of the Dutch Society for Anesthesiology, the Dutch Pain Society, and the International Association for the Study of Pain.
