Helena Tlaskalova-hogenova MD, PhD, DSc

Helena Tlaskalova-Hogenova, MD, DSc is professor of Immunology of Charles University, in Prague. She graduated at School of Medicine, Charles University, then initially trained for 2 years in internal medicine, followed by a PhD in Immunology (under supervision of Prof. Jaroslav Sterzl, one of the founders of modern developmental immunology) in Institute of Microbiology, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, where she is working as a researcher.

Her main research interest is mucosal immunology and gut immunopathology. Using gnotobiotic animal models she was studying how microbiota influence the development of the immune system and how commensal bacteria participate in pathogenesis of autoimmune, inflammatory and neoplastic diseases. From 1999-2004 she was a head of the Laboratory of Specific Cellular Immunology, from 1991 till 2003 she served as the head of the Division of Immunology and Gnotobiology in Institute of Microbiology. In 2001 she became a professor of immunology in 1st Medical Faculty, Charles University, Prague.
