Helen S. Mayberg MD

Helen S. Mayberg, MD, is a distinguished neurologist and Professor of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, Neuroscience, and Artificial Intelligence and Human Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She is the founding Director of the Nash Family Center for Advanced Circuit Therapeutics at Mount Sinai Health System.

Dr. Mayberg is internationally recognized for her pioneering research on brain circuits involved in depression and her groundbreaking work on deep brain stimulation (DBS) for treatment-resistant depression. Her research integrates neuroimaging, neuroscience, and neuromodulation to understand the neural circuits underlying mood disorders and develop personalized treatments for complex neuropsychiatric conditions.

She earned her MD from the University of Southern California, completed neurology training at Columbia University, and pursued postdoctoral training in nuclear medicine at Johns Hopkins Medicine. She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the National Academy of Inventors.
