Helen Messier, PhD, MD, CCFP, is a national leader in providing hands-on individualized comprehensive medical and wellness care. She is a passionate advocate for Functional Medicine, which is personalized medicine that deals with primary prevention and uncovering the root causes that lead to illness. It enables individualized care by identifying a person’s unique biochemical and physiological imbalances.

Dr. Messier received a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in genetics from the University of Alberta. While there, she was awarded an Alberta Heritage Fund Scholarship to conduct genetic research and taught laboratory studies to undergraduate students. Dr. Messier went on to earn a Ph.D. in molecular immunology from the University of Alberta, with a focus on the genetic regulation of T-cell receptor genes. She completed post-doctoral studies at the La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology in San Diego, California. She then won the Nat Christie Entrance Scholarship at the University of Calgary Medical School, completing her residency in family medicine in Calgary.

Dr. Messier pursued further post-graduate training in the following disciplines: Functional, anti-aging, nutritional, and integrative medicine. She is an Institute for Functional Medicine certified practitioner, one of only five in Canada. Dr. Messier’s practice has included rural medicine, primary and walk-in care, geriatric medicine, and hospice care. Dr. Messier is currently the medical director of Healix Health in Vancouver, BC.
