Dr. Heinz Neumann, born in 1974, studied chemistry in Darmstadt and Tübingen and received his Ph.D. for his work on membrane fusion under Prof. Dr. Andreas Mayer (Lausanne). In 2006, he moved to Cambridge (UK) to work with Dr. Jason Chin on the directed evolution of translational machinery. In fall 2009, he was appointed Junior Professor at the University of Gottingen, where he established the Free-Floater Junior Research Group “Applied Synthetic Biology.”

In 2016, funded by a Heisenberg-Fellowship of the DFG, his group moved to the Max-Planck Institute for Molecular Physiology in Dortmund. In 2019 he was appointed by the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt as Professor in Biochemistry.
