Heinrich Iro MD, PhD, DM

Dr. Iro, MD, Ph.D. was born in Saarbrücken in 1956. From 1975 to 1981 he studied human medicine at Saarland University. In 1981 he received his license to practice medicine. A year later, Heinrich Iro passed the US state examination and was he was granted a doctor of medicine degree. Following his military service as a medical officer at the Bad Zwischenahn military hospital, he worked for ten years as an assistant doctor at the ENT clinic of the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg.

During this time, Dr. Iro had been certified as a specialist in ear, nose, and throat medicine and acquired additional qualifications in plastic surgery, special ENT surgery, environmental medicine, and allergology. In 1995 he was appointed professor at the University of Saarland and director of the ENT and Head and Neck Surgery Clinic at the Saarland University Hospital. In 2000 he accepted a professorship for ENT medicine at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg and took over the management of the ENT and Head and Neck Surgery Clinic at the University Clinic Erlangen. In October 2004 Prof. Iro was appointed Deputy Medical Director and in February 2009 Medical Director of the University Clinic.
