In 1998, She started a postdoctoral fellowship at UCSD in California, doing work with human amnesia patients for 2 years. Following this, She decided to continue her career in the US and had to redo a medical internship which she did in Iowa City, and then a neurology residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. She stayed on for a 2-year fellowship in Behavioral Neurology/Neuropsychiatry.
