Heidi N. Schmaltz MD, FRCPC

Dr. Heidi Schmaltz obtained her medical degree from McGill University. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at McGill as well, before moving to Baltimore to complete a clinical & research fellowship in Geriatric Medicine & Gerontology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. As a geriatrician with Seniors’ Health, Alberta Health Services (Calgary), Dr. Schmaltz provides inpatient & outpatient geriatric consultations, including via telehealth to two nearby rural communities. Clinically, she particularly enjoys the challenges of dementia care, particularly reactive behaviours.
She is the Section Lead for both Telehealth and Continuing Professional Development, both tools she believes are valuable in supporting optimal care for complex older adults, particularly in rural areas. Dr. Schmaltz helped develop and continues to chair the Annual Geriatric Update: Clinical Pearls offered through the University of Calgary Department of CME and CPD. She is also active in the CPD committee of the Canadian Geriatrics Society.
