Heidi Bahna is a Colorectal surgeon, board-certified in both General and Colon Rectal Surgery. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Miami as a Dean's Scholar and obtained her medical degree from New York Medical College. Dr. Bahna completed general surgery training at Temple University in Philadelphia followed by additional subspecialty training in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Colon and Rectal Surgery at Orlando Health Colon and Rectal Clinic. She has been practicing in South Florida since 2011, initially as full-time faculty at the University of Miami where she served as the Associate Program Director for the Colorectal surgery fellowship program. Dr. Heidi Bahna joined JFK in 2018 where she has elevated the subspecialty care of colorectal patients in our community, in addition to her role as Program Director for the University of Miami/ JFK surgical residency. Dr. Bahna has mentored dozens of students, residents, and fellows and earned numerous teaching awards. She has been an invited speaker at national and international conferences on various topics in Colon and Rectal surgery as well as Women in Surgery.
Dr. Bahna performs all advanced procedures in colon and rectal surgery including the treatment of hemorrhoids, fistulas, colon and rectal cancer, Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis, diverticulitis, pilonidal disease, colon polyps, rectocele, and other pelvic floor disorders. Dr. Bahna has a special interest in the integrated comprehensive multidisciplinary care of patients with colorectal cancer and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. She utilizes minimally invasive techniques including advanced colonoscopy, transanal surgery, and robotic, and laparoscopic surgery. She is a champion of Enhanced Surgical Recovery pathways which promote early postoperative feeding, improve outcomes, decrease postoperative pain and narcotic use, and minimize hospital stay.
