Prof. Tsang is currently a professor and the head of Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His primary research interest has been focusing on psychiatric rehabilitation for people with severe mental illness and integrative medicine. His research on social skills in the workplace won the Best Cross-regional Case Study Award in 1996 at the XIVth International Conference on the Social Sciences and Medicine organized by the International Forum for Social Sciences in Health (IFSSH), Scotland, and United Kingdom. Prof. Tsang has extended his secondary research interest to integrative medicine for the past 15 years.
He is also the Director for Center for East meets West in Rehabilitation at the department.
Prof. Tsang has attracted altogether $53 million research fund from various local and overseas sources including RGC, HMRF, QEF, Social Development Fund, and NIH from USA. Meanwhile, he has more than 200 publications with the majority of them in SCI/SSCI journals. He has more than 3,600 citations with a H-index of 36. He currently serves as the Associate Editor of the American Journal of Occupational Therapy, Administration and Policy in Mental Health, and the American Journal of Psychiatric Rehabilitation. In addition, he is also reviewer of a more than 80 SCI/SCI journals including Schizophrenia Research, Schizophrenia Bulletin, Journal of Pain, Biological Psychiatry, Journal of Affective Disorder, etc.
He is now a member of the Assessment and Monitoring Sub-committee of the Quality Education Fund in Hong Kong. Professor Tsang has received a number of local and international awards including the International Educator of the Year 2003 from the International Biographical Center, being a finalist for the Director’s Fellowship at the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) in 2004, and the Most Valuable Consultancy Projects Award from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2006. Prof. Tsang has frequently been invited to deliver workshops and lectures around the world including Australia, Philippines, Macau, mainland China, Singapore, Japan, and the United States.
