Dr. Heather Porter is an Associate Professor in the Therapeutic Recreation Program at Temple University and was recently awarded the "Excellence in Teaching Award" from Temple’s College of Public Health.
She has a strong clinical background in inpatient and outpatient physical rehabilitation (traumatic brain injury, stroke, amputation, arthritis, back disorders, multiple sclerosis, cardiac, pulmonary, spinal cord injury, joint replacement, & obesity) and is an avid proponent of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF).
She served as the Chair for the American Therapeutic Recreation Association’s (ATRA) ICF Team for several years and is now the Lead Chair for ATRA's Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Treatment Network. She is the editor of the Recreational Therapy Practice series for Idyll Arbor, Inc., has published multiple book chapters and refereed journal articles, and mentors Recreational Therapy students in manuscript development for publication.
Additionally, she organizes the annual Recreational Therapy Evidence Based Practice Day Conference at Temple University, maintains RT Wise Owls (www.rtwiseowls.com) to disseminate Recreational Therapy evidence based practice information, and is the Recreational Therapy Licensure Coordinator for Pennsylvania,
