Dr. Harry L. Legan has specialized in treating the most challenging orthodontic cases for over 35 years.
Professor Legan served for 32 years in full-time academics as Associate Professor and Director of
Orthodontics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School–Parkland Memorial Hospital,
Professor and Chairman of Orthodontics at West Virginia University School of Dentistry, and founding
Professor and Chairman of Orthodontics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Legan is on the
Editorial Boards of several journals, including The Angle Orthodontist and the American Journal of
Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics. He has authored numerous publications and lectured extensively
world wide.
Dr. Legan is an internationally-recognized orthodontic expert on diagnosis and treatment planning,
biomechanics, obstructive sleep apnea, orthognathic surgery, biomechanics and distraction osteogenesis.
He has been awarded numerous awards, honors and prizes as a result of his work in these arenas. Dr.
Legan is Vice-President of the North Atlantic Component of the E.H. Angle Society, President of the
Tennessee Association of Orthodontists, Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, and Orthodontic
Member of the TennCare Advisory Committee. He is currently pursuing a variety of professional interests,
including lecturing, part-time private practice, appliance development, clinical research, consulting and
expert witness.
