Dr. Longmaid is Chair of the Medicine Academy of the National Academies of Practice. He is former Chair of Radiology and President of the Medical Staff at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton (Massachusetts). A former faculty member of Harvard Medical School (HMS), he directed radiology residency and fellowship programs at the New England Deaconess Hospital and the Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center, both HMS teaching hospitals. His clinical work is medical imaging, and his administrative work had focused on continuous improvement processes in imaging, facilitating just culture approaches in healthcare environments, promoting interprofessional team learning and practice, and advancing humanistic care through skillful communication and articulation of values.
