Harold Downes

Harold Downes is a partner and leads the Herbert Smith Freehills Asia Pacific Health and Safety Team. Harold’s practice includes all aspects of employment law but focuses on work health and safety in all its facets. Harold advises extensively on incident response and investigations, with a particular focus on developing strategies to balance safety, commercial and legal considerations in the aftermath of an incident.

Harold is identified as one of only four Leading Individuals in the Australian Legal 500 rankings, the only one outside of Sydney. He is also recognised by the Doyles Legal Guide as a Leading Workplace Health and Safety Lawyer and is listed in Best Lawyers Australia in the Occupational Health and Safety Law and Employment Law categories. Harold lectures on health and safety at the University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology.
