Biological Chemist by training, Dr. Harmesh Aojula is a senior lecturer in the Division of Pharmacy and Optometry. He has over 25 years of combined experience in academia, industry, and SMEs. After qualifying with a Ph.D. (Biological Chemistry, 1988) from the University of Essex, He joined the Biosensors Group at the Centre for Applied Microbiology Research (CAMR) in Porton Down. He worked on several pathogen and analyte detection projects and developed liposome amplified assays with new triggering mechanisms based on membrane-active peptides modified from natural sequences. He moved to the University of Manchester in 1996 as a drug delivery research fellow in the School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences. He made the transition to teaching fellow in 2004, specializing in teaching Pharmaceutical analysis and drug development processes while also innovating an e-learning platform for enabling reliable formative and summative assessments. He became a T&R lecturer in the year 2010 and led the development of the year 2 Medicine unit.
