Hansjorg Hauser graduated in Biology (Dr. rer. nat.) in 1977 at the University of Konstanz, Germany. He completed his postdoctoral training at the Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Genetics, Berlin, and at the German Cancer Research Center, Heidelberg.

In 1981 Hansjörg Hauser became staff scientist of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, HZI (formerly Gesellschaft fuer Biotechnologische Forschung, GBF) where he assumed leading positions/tasks such as head of Division Molecular Biotechnology; Head of Department Gene Regulation and Differentiation; Member of the HZI Steering Committee; Chairman of the HZI Graduate School; Speaker of research topic Inflammation and Immunity.

Hansjörg Hauser’s expertise is molecular biology. He is studying events in transcription activation and signal transduction that mediate consequences of infections. With this work he tries to connect molecular events of innate immune reactions with complex phenotypes in the organism. He is also active in translational research concerning gene expression in biotechnology and gene/cell therapies.
