Prof. Dr. Hans-Werner Wahl is a psychologist, senior professor, and director of the Aging Research Network at the University of Heidelberg. Previously, he headed the Department of Psychological Aging Research at the Psychological Institute of the University of Heidelberg from 2006 to 2017. He received his doctorate in 1989 from the Free University of Berlin. His research focuses on the investigation of interactions between aging and the environment, adaptation processes in late life, the role of subjective experiences of aging, and dealing with chronic losses, especially sensory and mobility losses. He is the author/co-author/editor of more than 360 publications, of which more than 190 are original works (h-index = 35). From 2004 to 2017 he was co-editor of the European Journal of Ageing. His contributions have received numerous awards, including the 2009 M. Powell Lawton Award from the American Gerontological Society, where he also holds fellow status. He was also a fellow of the Marsilius College at the University of Heidelberg. In 2019 he received the Advanced Scholar Award: Socio-behavioral Sciences from the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics, European Region.
