Hans Clevers studies the biology of Wnt signaling in tissue turnover and in cancer. His seminal discovery of Lgr5 as a generic marker of Wnt-dependent stem cells allowed to grow these stem cells into ever-expanding organoids, which hold promise in personalized drug responses and regenerative medicine.
